Language Arts
Good quality content is important if you want to get good search engine rankings. There is a high degree of correlation across the internet between long-form content (1300+ words) and top ratings, but that doesn't mean really long web pages get you ranked. It's just something to keep in mind. It does make sense that if people are searching for more information, having a web page that actually goes into detail about the subject and uses lots of nitty-gritty related terms discussing it, would appear more likely to Google to provide helpful answers than a website with a few paragrphics of high-level, blah-blah content. Help people understand how to actually do something, and you'll do better.
SPINTAX
Within language arts, we need to discuss a highly controversial topic called spinning. It's part of the reason the Internet is inundated with spam. The reason people spin is to be able to quickly create a large quantity of unique articles to post on websites. The problem with spinning is that unless an actual human takes a lot of time to construct the spin document, which almost never happens, what you end up is an article where the language just doesn't make sense because you let a computer guess what synonyms to use. As an example of spinning, the spin program might take the word "good" and decide that appropriate synonyms will be "great", "useful", and "appropriate". However if the word immediately after it is the word deal, as in "good deal", I think you'll agree that it's highly unlikely that anyone would read the term "appropriate deal" and get the same implied meaning as "good deal". However that's exactly what happens with spun documents. Just so you'll know, spun content might look something like this in what is called 'spintax', in which multiple alternate choices are contained between curley braces {} and separated by the pipe symbol |, as so:
{good|better|best|appropriate|useful} {deal|agreement|negotiation}
People use these spun documents and run them through automatic posters that blast hundreds or even thousands of articles around the Internet at a time to create backlinks. Unfortunately the actual quality of the articles often leaves something to be desired, though they have gotten better.
CONTENT CURATION
I can't begin to cover this subject in detail, but content curation is about formulating your own unique ideas and opinion about a subject while referencing material published by others. In such a fashion, you don't have to actually write very much content yourself, but you do have to do just a little bit of research. A skilled professional can generally create a good quality curated article in just about 30 minutes if you know what you're doing, and all indications are that Google really likes it. Yes, you do need to give a link to the original source, but this helps establish credibility with Google that your website isn't selfish. If it's on your money site, it's OK for such links to be no-follow. Just build your link like this to create a no-follow link that helps keep the link juice on your page:
<a href="http://google.com" rel="nofollow">Google</a>
